How young is too young to be in a romantic relationship?
3:53:09 PMOkogba

Dear Aunty Julie,

I am 16 years old and have finished my secondary education. I am what a psychologist would call an early developer because I look like a full-grown lady and men make passes at me. Nobody believes me when I tell them my age. I am tired of telling people that I am still what my mum calls a minor.

Recently, a guy who has long graduated from the University approached me in the church and proposed to be my friend and have a relationship with me. I am a Christian and my family is born-again. My parents would practically skin me alive if I look at a guy let alone talk to one.

As I'm talking to you, I can hear my mother's voice warning me to focus on my education and forget relationships for now. She is always threatening hell-fire and damnation whenever issues of realtionship crops up in our discussion. I am a 21stcentury teenager. I cannot approach my mother with discussions like this. That's why I am asking you. Please help me. How young is too young to be in a romantic relationship?

Ufoma, Warri

Dear Ufoma,

Your mother is right in trying to protect you because she doesn't want you to make any mistake that would scuttle your future. Often, the younger we are, the less mature we are due to a lack of life experience. When we are just beginning to figure out who we are, we may not be firmly grounded enough to form solid romantic attachments and may be more prone to making unwise decisions that can leave us with emotional, physical, psychological, and spiritual damage.

Being in a relationship puts one in almost constant temptation, especially as emotions begin to develop and the attraction to the other person deepens. Young teens, even older teens are besieged by hormonal and societal pressures that seem at times almost unbearable. Each day brings new feelings, doubts, fears, and confusion coupled with joys and exhilaration which can be very confusing. Young people spend much of their time just figuring out who they are and how they relate to the world and the people around them. To add the pressure of a relationship at this stage seems almost too much to ask. Such early relationships make it more difficult to avoid damage to the delicate and still-forming self-image, not to mention the problem of resisting temptation. If being marriage-minded is still far off, it is probably too early to begin dating or courtship. Safer for girls like you are group activities where young people can develop social skills and friendships without the pressure and inherent difficulties of romantic attachments.

No matter when a person decides to begin a romantic relationship, this should be a time of building on the foundation that he or she has been taught, of growing and figuring out what God wants him or her to do.

I cannot hang to myself

Dear Julie,

I don't know how to keep certain things to myself. One thing that's difficult for me in relationships is "hanging on to myself." It seems that once I get close to someone , I give in and accommodate so much that there's nothing left of me. And before I knew it, they would be taking me for granted. Is it 'see finish' or what?

Kennedy, Lagos

Dear Kennedy ,

It's hard to experience fulfillment in a relationship which is not equal and reciprocal. The best way to avoid "giving yourself up" in a relationship is to develop some assertiveness skills. Be firm. Learn how to express your feelings, beliefs, opinions, and needs openly and honestly. You have a right to have feelings and to make requests. State them directly and firmly and without apology. Acknowledge the other person's point of view, but repeat your request as many times as necessary. Learn to say "no" to unreasonable requests. Offer a reason, not an excuse , if you choose, but your feelings are reason enough. Trust them.\

We're from different worlds

Aunty Julie,

My bae and I are from different backgrounds. My parents were educated while hers were not. My father is a professor and my mother holds a Phd in Social Sciences. I grew up in a University environment and my lifestyle is basically urbane.

My bae is educated but her parents who were business people struggled to put her through school. Her orientation in life is basically different but we love each other. However, the differences in our backgrounds always spring up when least expected and it can be  pretty frustrating.

What can we do about it?

Elo, Port-Harcourt

Dear Elo,

It's normal for relationship partners to have different needs in at least few areas. Coming from different worlds or having differing needs don't mean your relationship is coming apart, but it is important to communicate about them to avoid misunderstandings. Tell your partner directly what you want or need, rather than expecting them to know already . Set aside time to discuss unresolved issues. Pouting, sulking, and the "silent treatment" don't make matters any better. Inevitably, you and your partner will have conflicts but they needn't be nasty. Stay in the present, don't dwell on past grievances. Listen actively , express back to your partner what you understand his/her thoughts and feelings to be. There should be no saving up hurts and hostilities and dumping them on your partner all at once and if you are wrong, admit it!

How do I go about meeting the right people?

 Aunty Julie,

I am a young lady of 23 and still an undergraduate. I will say I'm mature for relationships and have had a failed relationship in the past. Ever since, I have not connected with another lover. I don't think I have a poor self-concept. I feel pretty good about myself. But in my university, it is easy to get lost in the crowd. How do I go about meeting the right people? I worry aboutbefriending people who will influence my life negatively.

Jane, Benin City.

Dear Jane,

It appears you see meeting people as something which requires effort, and you're right! No matter how stunningly attractive you may be, passively waiting for others to throw themselves your way not only doesn't work very reliably, it doesn't allow you to be very choosy. One of the best ways to meet people is to put yourself in places where there are likely to be other people who share your interests and values. And as a student, there are many organizations you can join. There are students union meetings, departmental meetings and other social groups. Check for information on groups based on religion, athletics, academics, political/special interests, ethnicity/culture, and service or charity. You cannot get lost in a crowd if you identify yourself with the right groups. And when you're with people, initiate a conversation by asking a question, commenting on the situation, asking for or offering an opinion, expressing some interest, showing some concern, or offering or requesting help. When you've engaged someone in conversation, let him know you're listening and interested. Make eye contact, adopt an open posture, reflect the feelings you hear, paraphrase what he is saying, and ask for clarification if you don't understand. Always remember that no risks, no gains. Don't be discouraged if you and the other person don't "click" first and every time. Goodluck.

COCK-TALES

Lunch hour

"My Darling," said a husband to his wife, "I invited a friend for  lunch."

"What? Are you crazy?" The wife replied. The house is a mess, I  haven't been shopping, and I am not going to prepare any meal."

"I know  that" husband replied.

"So why did you invite him then"? She  asked.

"Because the poor fool is thinking about getting married."

Bruising

A woman came to a doctor, with bumps and bruising all over her body. The woman complained that it was her husband, who beat her. The doctor was surprised.

"I thought your husband was out of town."

"  So did I.."

Compliment

A woman standing in front of the mirror complained to her husband:

"I look ugly. At least you tell me any compliment!"

"Your vision is perfect!"

Lovers

Two friends, a florist and a plumber were talking:

"I think my wife has a lover," said the florist.

" How do you know?" asked the plumber

"When I returned home after work, I found freshly gathered roses on the bed."

"Well, and I think my wife has a lover too ," said the plumber.

"How do you know?"

"When I returned home after work, I found a plumber, lying on the bed."

Assault case latest: Court awards N2 Million damages against musician Lynxx
2:41:42 PMOkogba

By Desmond Ike-Chima

Even as Nigerian model and musician Chukie Edozien who goes by the stage name, Lynxx battles to revive his career, Showtime can authoritatively reveal that the Delta State-born sex symbol may also be battling with another major crisis at the moment.

*Lynxxx

The controversial former Pepsi ambassador was in 2013 slammed with a N10 million legal suit (suit no: mcl/1389/2013) after he allegedly assaulted one Richard Bennet (Pope) an acclaimed UK-based Nigerian businessman.

Lynxx alleged that Bennet sexually harassed and assaulted his manager's cousin, Nikki at a birthday gig for singer, Praiz.

The singer was said to be with his manager and some friends at the time when Bennet walked into Ntycee Night Club with his nephews to relax.

In his words, Bennet claimed it was while strolling around the club that his drink spilled on a lady who allegedly slapped him and emptied the content of her glass cup on him.

"Lynxx on learning what had happened, grabbed me by the lapel, and later broke bottles and threatened to kill me if I did not apologise to the lady who I later learnt was his relation," he said. "Lynxxx and his friends remained at the gate, regrouped and later forced themselves back  into the club where they "brutally assaulted me with several blows to my head and body." Benett further claimed.

Showtime was reliably informed that after all moves to reconcile the warring parties failed, the matter was eventually brought before a Lagos Magistrate court and presided over by Mrs. Joy  Ogbomoiko who after examining the facts of the case, on Thursday April 6, 2017 passed a judgment awarding the claimant N2 million damages.

Although council to Benett, Terfa Mark Anata of Festus Keyamo Chambers declined speaking to our correspondent in court, he walked away full of smiles and self satisfaction. More details later.

Save APC now, Frank begs Buhari, Osinbajo, others
1:42:10 PMNwafor Polycarp

A member of All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Timi Frank, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and National Assembly leadership to rescue the party from collapse.

Other party leaders Frank appealed to in a statement on Friday in Abuja, included Sen. Bola Tinubu and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

He pleaded with the leaders and other stakeholders to urgently salvage the party.

Frank was reacting to the postponement of the party`s National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings by its National Working Council (NWC).

The party's NWC through a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, on Thursday announced the postponement of the meetings citing "unexpected developments" as reason.

It said that new dates for the meetings would be announced in due course.

Frank, however, blamed the postponement of the meetings on the lack of trust from the party leaders on Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the party's National Chairman and his leadership style.

He said the party under its current leadership, was not bringing anything on the table to support President Muhammadu Buhari's administration contrary to expectations.

He said that what the party needed at the moment a national leadership that could consult widely before taking decision.

Man loses 18-year-old marriage to wife's friend's pant
12:59:35 PMadekunle

Lagos – An Igando Customary Court in Lagos State on Friday dissolved an 18-year-old marriage between Mrs Taiwo Bolumade and her husband, Olajide over counter allegations of infidelity and battery.

This dissolution came after several adjournments by the court asking the couple to resolve their differences were unsuccessful.

Earlier, Mrs Taiwo Bolumade, 42, had told the court that she stumbled on a message where her friend was begging her husband, Olajide, 45, to return her pant.

"My husband is dating my married friend and I discovered this when I was with his cell phone.

"Then, a whatsApp message entered with my friend's picture appearing on the screen begging my husband to return her pant.

"I showed my husband the message; he confessed that he was having an illegal affair with her that I should forgive him.

"I also went to my friend's house to confront her for having an illegal affair with my husband.

"She also begged me that I should not let her husband hear about it and promised to end the relationship with my husband," the petitioner told the court.

The petitioner, a mother of four, also alleged that her husband had developed the habit of threatening to kill her with dangerous weapons at the slightest provocation.

"My husband is used to beating me up using dangerous weapons; recently he threatened to kill me.

"Anytime I received a call, my husband would demand for my cell phone to know if it were a man that called; and if I refused to surrender it to him, he would beat the hell out of me.

"He once attacked me on the bed with a cutlass; threatening to machete me but I escaped by the whiskers," she said.

The petitioner said that her husband had refused to eat food prepared by her in the past three years.

She, therefore, pleaded with the court to grant her application for divorce, saying she no longer loved her husband.

Olajide, who denied her wife's allegation of infidelity, accused Taiwo of having an extra-marital affair with another man.

"My wife is having an affair with a man; I had caught them severally behind a transformer where they were always meeting around 11p.m.

"She and her lover arrested me on two occasions, accusing me of always calling her lover's cell phone and threatening his life, an allegation I knew nothing about," he said.

Olajide also described his wife as "an ingrate", alleging that he bought two cars for her when his business was booming but when it crashed, she started misbehaving.
"In fact, she even invited the police to arrest me claiming I stole her N100,000 of which I am innocent of," he said.

According to him, Taiwo always goes out at will without my permission and will always return home between 11:p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

The husband said he stopped eating foods prepared by his wife because she was fond of abusing him before serving him.

Olajide, however, urged the court to grant his wife's application for divorce, saying he was also fed up with the 18-year-old marriage.

The president of the court, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, in his judgment said that it appeared that the couple was fed up with the marriage as all efforts to reconcile them had failed.

"Since both parties had consented to the dissolution of their marriage, this court has no choice than to dissolve the marriage.

Ikoyigate: Again, Magu meets Osinbajo's committee at Aso Villa

hobnobs with DSS boss after Jummat prayer
By Levinus Nwabughiogu
ABUJA-Apparently determined to conclude its assignment before the expiration of the 14 days ultimatum, the 3 man committee set up to investigate Babachir Lawal and the Ayo Oke met on Friday.

Lawal and Oke who were hitherto the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA respectively were suspended from office on Wednesday by President Muhammadu Buhari following their indictment in corruption allegations.

Osinbajo, Magu, Daura and Idris

While Lawal was alleged to have concerned a large chunk of the money appropriated for the welfare of the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs through a grass-cutting project of the Presidential Initiative on North East, PINE, Oke got trapped in the $43m found by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC in Lagos recently as his agency was the first to claim ownership of the money.

In its Friday meeting, the panel headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and had the National Security Adviser, NSA, Babagana Monguno and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami as members also summoned the acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu just as it did on its Thursday session.

Leaving off the meeting after about two and half hours, Magu who came out first declined to answer questions put to him by Journalists.

“Wait for him, I am coming back now”, he simply said as he exited Osinbajo’s office at the Presidential Villa.

Minutes later, the Attorney-General was seen coming down from the Vice President’s office.

But he, too, wouldn’t speak to Journalists on the outcome of the meeting.

“Go and speak to the Chairman”, he said while walking out of the Villa premises.

Meanwhile, the DSS Director-General, Lawal Dauru whose office issued a damning Security report that stalled the confirmation of Magu by the Senate was seen at the Presidential forcourt after worshiping at the State House mosque on Friday hobnobbing with the EFCC boss.

As at press time, Magu never returned to the Villa to meet with Journalists as he promised.

My Advice: Pay Close Attention Because the Solution Shared Here Have Been Used To Help OVER 25,000 Nigerians Restore Their Eyesight and Make Them Enjoy a Better Life Without Glasses/Lenses.

Today is your turn and i assure you that after reading this, you will never see any reason to put on those glasses/lenses – except for beauty/fashion sake.

Exactly Six Years Ago I Almost Went Blind and Was Told I Would Never See Without Lenses for The Rest of My Life. But I OVERCAME and you too can.

Unlike some other cases, i wasn’t born with Glaucoma, Short-Sightedness (Myopia), Hyperopia (Far-Sightedness), Lazy Eye (Amblyopia) or Eye Floaters. It all started when I was in my early 20’s.

Amid my pain, I had no idea I would one day discover a solution to improve my eyesight and be able to throw my glasses away.

I will never forget the day I walked into the opticians with high hopes that I would be given a pair of maybe eye medicine that would somehow 'cure' me.

My hopes were shattered when the optician told me I would have to wear glasses for the rest of my life. True to his words, Year by year my vision got worse. I had to go back for a thicker pair of glasses every year.

Few years later my vision was so bad, I was virtually blind without my glasses.

Life improved at first when eye glasses lenses came along. But being forgetful as I am, I would too often leave my glasses on and fall asleep. The irritation and pain in my eyes the next morning would be unbearable.

Is There Any Solution Out There?

This question ponders repeatedly in my head for several weeks, while my quest for finding the cure is still on.

I wanted something that was effective at getting rid of my problem; improve my eye health and most of all, something free of side-effects.

But this was easier said than done…

I started by using over-the-counter products to keep my eyes lubricated along with other suggestions given by opticians and doctors. I tried recommendations given by naturopaths. I tried numerous products that supposedly enhanced eye health. However, none of these worked as I would expect.

Years passed, and I had since tested dozens of other methods, wasted a lot of money without any satisfactory results…

So I Knew I Had To Figure This Out On My Own…

I knew I needed something Natural, something Non-Surgical and a permanent solution to my problem.

I became a restless and worried man inside, but looking cute outside.

This thing continued for months…

It Took A Long Time, And A Lot Of Money, But I Finally Found A Solution That Drastically Improved My Eye Sight Within 30 Days…

Without the need of any expensive and harmful surgical products… and I'm going to share that with you.

Boko Haram: Olonisakin tasks journalists on accurate, balance reportage
12:18:26 PMOkogba

By Joseph Erunke

ABUJA-CHIEF of Army Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, has tasked journalists to exercise restraint while reporting issues that have serious security implications.

He particularly asked reporters to ensure they balance their reports by getting the side of the military through appropriate military quarters, reminding them that the Directorate of Defence Information would remain the clearing house for all media related issues of the military.

General Gabriel Olonisakin

Olonisakin, who spoke, yesterday, through Rear Admiral Jonathan Ango, at a one-day 2017 Defence Correspondents’ Seminar, held at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, asked journalists especially Defence Correspondents to always liaise with the Director of Defence Information, DDI, to obtain official statements and also clear doubts.

While acknowledging the roles media has been playing in the restoration of peace in the country, especially North East, Olonisakin noted that due to the continuous drive of the military to maintain an open door policy, media organisations “have always been granted permission and provided armed escorts to our theatres of operation.”

“Likewise, some Non Governmental Organisations and Civil Society Organisations were facilitated to perform their duties at different locations of the mission areas nationwide, “he added.

The Chief of Defence Staff said the Defence Headquarters would continue to leverage on the existing cordial relationship between the media and the military,”having in mind the critical role media plays on military operations.”

“It is in acknowledgement of this enormous and vital role, that this forum is being given all necessary support, so as to further explore more areas for collaboration and partnership.

“Indeed, our determination and resolve to restore peace and security in the country have never been in doubt. The Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies are working assiduously to ensure that terrorism and criminalities among others are checkmated, “he further said.

He commended the organisers of the seminar for choosing a theme:” Professional Information Management, a Panacea for Improved National Security”, saying he was particularly happy that the topic elicited intellectual discourse on issues surrounding information management and national security.

Noting that the theme was aimed at creating greater awareness among media practitioners on the subject, Olonisakin said there was “no better time than now for such a topical issue to be discussed by the media stakeholders.”

Earlier, in his welcome address, Director of Defence Information, Major General John Enenche, said it was necessary for the Defence Headquarters and his office in particular, to always ensure that Defence Correspondents were adequately prepared to function creditably.

Lagos denies involvement in demolition of Berger Retail Market
12:06:41 PMOkogba

…We Don’t Demolish Without Adequate Notice, Says Commissioner

The Lagos State Government on Friday debunked media reports linking it to the demolition of Berger retail market, saying that the allegation was far from the truth.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tpl. Wasiu Anifowose, the State Government described the media reports as figment of imagination of the authors.

The demolition exercise was carried out on Wednesday and most traders denied being served contravention notices.

While clarifying the position of the State Government, Anifowose said it was not the norm of the government to act in such manner, adding that before any demolition is carried out, all statutory notices are served.

"As a State Government, we like to categorically deny involvement in the demolition exercise as alleged in some national dailies.

"While the reports in one breath claimed that the State Government was responsible for the demolition, it was also said that it was in compliance with a court judgment.

“The same report also alleged that an unnamed former Governor was behind the exercise, while still claiming that the land on which the retail market was located had been under global acquisition for years.

“Our story is that some of the market women came to my office yesterday saying that their market was being demolished, and after finding out from relevant agencies because I have not given any directive on demolition and having confirmed that our agencies were not involved, I told the market people that the demolition nerver came from us.

“We don’t demolish without organising a stakeholder meeting with the concerned people and we also ensure that we give them enough notice,” Anifowose said.

He added that the last time the State Government carried out a demolition exercise was in January when lay-by was being constructed.

"For the avoidance of doubt, the Lagos State Government hereby categorically deny involvement in the demoilition exercise," Anifowose said.

We'll begin construction of three new general hospitals this year- Ambode

…Orders Contractors Handling Uncompleted Projects Back To Site
…Promises Massive Infrastructural Renewal In Ojo Axis
…Holds 7th Town Hall Meeting In Oto-Awori

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Friday said that plans are already underway to commence construction of three new ultra modern General Hospitals in the State this year to improve healthcare delivery in the State.

Governor Ambode of Lagos State

Governor Ambode, who spoke at the second quarterly Town Hall Meeting for the year and seventh in the series held at Shibiri/Ekunpa Area Office in Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA), said the State Government was already concluding the necessary paperwork before the contractors would move to site.

The Governor, who took time to take questions from community leaders, traditional rulers, market women, youth leaders and party leaders in the area, said the decision to bring the Town Hall Meeting to Oto-Awori LCDA was in continuation of his commitment to leave no community behind in the development of the State.

He said he was also in the area to listen to the requests of the people in the axis and see how his administration could respond accordingly.

Responding to the request for a General Hospital to be constructed in the area, Governor Ambode said three new facilities have been catered for in the 2017 budget.

“Talking about General Hospitals, in the budget we have designated General Hospitals for three areas and Ojo Local Government is one of them. It is in the pipeline, its just a matter of time, we are already closing in on it,” he said.

Governor Ambode also assured that efforts would be made to improve healthcare service delivery in the riverine area in Oto Awori, saying that residents in such areas have remained relevant in the government's achievements over the years.

“This area is traditionally and historically known to be a major supporter of government and we must give them back for the support which they have always been known for,” he said.

The Governor also acceded to the request of the residents for the rehabilitation of the access roads linking the area to the Alimosho General Hospital which they currently use pending the construction of a nearby General Hospital.

He, therefore, directed the State Public Works Corporation to immediately fix the roads to improve accessibility to the facility.

Besides, the Governor directed contractors handling several ongoing road projects across the State to return to their various sites or risks their contracts being terminated, saying that his administration would not tolerate any form of laxity in project delivery.

"I like the idea of bringing to the fore the issue of uncompleted projects. If we are able to do a link bridge in 11 months, if we are able to do Ajah flyover in 13 months and Abule Egba flyover in 13 months and we are going to commission all of them next month, how can these roads be there forever? So, obviously we should use the same spirit of delivering service to do all the outstanding roads. The Ministry of Works must go back to these sites, I must know what is going on within the next few days," the Governor said.

He listed some of the projects to include Mile 10 Road, Mowo Road, Tedi Road, Ilaje Road, Goriola Oseni Road, Sabo Mosafejo Road and Imude Orisa Road where only 1.5km of the road was covered by the contractor.

"These are contracts already awarded, it's for our own contractors to go there and finish the job, so the responsibility is on us to make sure you deliver these roads within the shortest possible time," he said.

The Governor also said that he had approved all the mini waterworks across the State, numbering about 41 to function optimally within the next 12 weeks to ensure that residents have access to clean and portable water.

Addressing issues concerning the physically challenged, Governor Ambode directed that the Civil Service Comission and the Local Government Civil Service Commission should put modalities in place to employ at least 250 physically challenged persons into the State Civil Service.

He also ordered the Chairman of the State's Sports Commission to offset all arrears of allowances owed the physically challenged athletes in the State next week.

Projecting for the next quarter, Governor Ambode said the Government would kick start the implementation of the Cleaner Lagos Initiative, implement the construction of 181 roads across the 57 LGs/LCDAs, complete the Abule-Egba and Ajah flyover bridges, further signalization of Lekki – Ajah express road and continuation of Road network upgrade in all the three Senatorial Zones.

"Furthermore, initiatives for Tourism will be intensified by commencing Development of Heritage Centre for Leadership (Presidential Lodge), Lagos History Centre, J.K Randle Centre, Transformation of the Onikan Museum, Development of tourism hubs in Lagos-West, Lagos-East, Construction of 6 Cultural Theatres in Alimosho, Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Ikeja and Lagos Mainland, and continuation of Epe and Badagry Waterfront development as well as other tourist potentials in the area," he said.
