Kano Pillars Football Club on Sunday defeated visiting MFM FC of Lagos 3-1 in a 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match Day 25 fixture in Kano.
Newsmen report that the match was played behind closed doors following the sanction on the hosts by the League Management Company (LMC) for crowd disturbances.
Pillars' team captain, Rabiu Ali, opened scores in the 12th minute through a penalty kick, while Stephen Odey equalised for the visitors in the 54th minute..
Amos Gyang and Adamu Muhammad scored in the 83rd and 90th minutes to make the game beyond the reach of the hard-fighting visitors.
Speaking at the post-match interview, coach Ibrahim Musa of Kano Pillars gave kudos to his players for winning the game against an experienced team.
He said the victory would boost his team's morale towards making great impact in the league this year.
On his part, coach Fidelis Ilechukwu of MFM FC said he was not happy with the officiating of the game.
"I am not happy with the officiating of the whole match.
"But we are going back to the drawing board to prepare for the remaining league matches,'' he said.
The Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has said that anybody found out to have more money than he or she should would be held to account for it. He also said that people who loot the public treasury or their organizations are doing so out of greed, and not because of any political objective of keeping a war chest for the future.
Osinbajo made this remark today at the celebration of Father's Day at Aso Villa Chapel, during which he also challenged the church to teach the lessons of honesty and integrity.
"Many would say the reason why they steal is because they want to have an arsenal for future political exploits. It is a lie. It is greed. In any case, even if you want to do that, you have no right to do it," he said.
His message from the pulpit certainly strikes a chord against the backdrop of the avalanche of corruption cases the Buhari administration has been pursuing.
The campaign had suffered some setbacks of late, with controversial verdicts by the court that tend to let go the accused.
Osinbajo, a professor of law and also a pastor of the Redeemed Church felt the church has a role to play.
"If the church says we will not accept you here or that we will expose you if you are stealing the resources of the country or stealing the resources of a private company or other establishment where you work, we would not have the type of problem that we have in this country."
"In Genesis 18:19. God was speaking about Abraham. And God said he had known him or called him in order that he may command his children and his household after him that they keep the way of the Lord with righteousness and justice that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He had spoken to him.
"In other words, God was saying that He called Abraham, in particular, because he realizes that Abraham will command his household, will command his children to do righteousness and justice and to fear God. And if you back this up with Genesis 12:2, God has spoken concerning Abraham, that He will make Abraham a great nation. Genesis 12:3 says, God said, I will make you a great nation.
"In other words, the role of the father is supposed to be that of building nations, building generations. And Abraham is the example God set for us; of a man who God wanted to be the exemplar of the type of conduct that God expects of fatherhood; a man who will teach his children and children thereafter the way of righteousness and justice and the way of fear of God.
"When I listened to His Eminence, the Prelate of the Methodist Church a few minutes ago, talking about the importance of the type of training that he received as a child in his family, I'm sure many of us here are reminded of that type of training. A type of training where you are taught and reminded about integrity, primarily as the first order of business; that you must be a person of integrity.
You must be truthful, you must be trustworthy, you must be honest, you must be forthright. That is the foundation. And in the days he referred to, Catechism was an important part of our lives. Even just knowing the 10 Commandments was enough to teach you about righteousness, teach you about the way of truth and I think that is very important, especially for us today as Christians.
"Christian fatherhood in particular is a position that God has placed us as exemplar to our nation. The Christian father is the one referred to in Genesis 18:19; the one who will teach the way of righteousness and justice to his children and would teach the fear of the Lord.
And I just want to say to all of our leaders (and I was speaking with few of our Christian leaders just last week, both of the PFN and CAN just last week on various occasions) that it is the role of the church to build this nation. And the church has that role because God has said concerning us that we are the light of the world and we are the salt of the earth. That role is a very, very difficult role.
"We are not to teach the world how to be like the world but to teach the world how to be like the one who saved the world, how to be like Jesus. It is not easy.
"Every time that we come to church, we are told about giving. But we need to talk more about honesty. We need to talk far more about honesty. In the same way we talk about giving, we need to talk more about honesty because just like His Eminence said, Nigeria's great problem is not the absence of prosperity. It is as he so eloquently put it, that we have enough for our needs but we don't have enough for our greed.
The greed of many is what has landed this country where it is today. It is the greed of so many; many who have been placed in position of authority. It is their greed that has landed us where we are, where it is difficult to do the sorts of things His Eminence saw in Washington and so many other places. You cannot steal half of the resources of the country and expect to build the sort of things you see in other places.
"And if the church says you are not allowed to steal and we will ostracize you in our midst if you did. If what a man has does not measure up to what he has, if we found that a man has more money than he should have, if a man is earning a salary of a civil servant or a public servant and he has houses everywhere, we have to hold him to account. But he must be held to account in the church. He must be told first in the church we will not allow you here.
If the church says we will not accept you here or that we will expose you if you are stealing the resources of the country or stealing the resources of a private company or other establishment where you work, then we would not have the type of problem that we have in this country. If only the church does so, just the church.
"Just as Christian fathers today, it is our duty as God spoke concerning Abraham in Genesis 18:19, it is our duty to build up a generation of righteous men and women, a nation of just men and women who fear God and puts God above everything else. And I believe that the Almighty God will help us.
"I just pray that the Father of fathers, the One who has called us, one who has saved us will bless each and every father here today in the mighty name of Jesus. The Almighty God who is the great Father of all fathers will ensure that we get everything we need to make our families, to make communities truly great and to make our nation great."
By Johnbosco Agbakwuru ABUJA – Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Sunday stated that the Presidency ignored inviting the leader of the indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu because the Presidency did not consider Kanu as a leader of thought in the south east.
But he said that Kanu’s non invitation did not mean that he would not be invited if there was the need for the Federal Government to invite him for discussion should the need arise in the future.
According to him, “Well, the thing is that we were looking for leaders of the people, leaders of thought and we do not see him as a leader of thought in the east.
“May be opportunity will come at one time or the other for him to be engaged.
“But so far, what we have done is to look at people who have influence in the communities, whether it is religious, whether it is traditional, whether it is political, social or governance. These are the people we brought in for discussion.”
He also said that the south leaders including Ohanaeze Ndigbo coming to see Osinbajo have neither asked for a referendum on Biafra or secession, saying that they have only complained about marginalization in appointments and harassment by police at road blocks.
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has warned that persons agitating for secession and the northern groups that issued ultimatum to Igbo risked jail terms as they violated Nigeria's laws.
Osinbajo gave the warning at a consultative meeting with traditional rulers from the South-East at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Abuja, on Sunday.
He said that the manner of the agitations, method and objective were wrong, unlawful and clearly violated the nation's Constitution.
He said: "I want to repeat that both the agitations for secession and the ultimatum to leave the northern states are wrong and a violation of our Constitution.
"Our Constitution says in Section 2 that Nigeria is one indivisible and indissoluble sovereign state to be known by the name `The Federal Republic of Nigeria'.
"That is the law of our country. Let us not be in any doubt about the fact that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring that our country remains united.
"And, anyone who violates the law in the manner such as we are seeing all over the place will be met with the full force of the law.
"The reason why it is so is because for Nigeria's unity, enough blood has been spilled and many hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost.''
The acting president recalled that many Nigerians had paid the supreme price to keep the country united, saying that "it will be wrong for men and women of goodwill in this generation to toy with those sacrifices that had been made''.
He, therefore, maintained that men of goodwill must not tolerate any tendency that would drag the nation in the direction of yet another civil conflict.
He, however, said that the government and people "must be sensitive to the reasons why there are agitations by the various young men across the various zones of this country.
"Many have to do with perceived marginalization; some have argued that safety in the different zones has been compromised.
"But I want to say the only way to make things right is to do things right. And, it will be wrong of us to approach even our grievances by threatening to disobey the laws or by threatening the integrity of our nation,'' he added.
Osinbajo reiterated Federal Government's commitment to listening to "all the reasons, the various suggestions and the various agitations and the reasons for those agitations and to ensure that we do justice to all persons regardless of where you are from in this country.
"That is the commitment of Federal Government which I am able to make to you today.
"Our greatness lies in our being together and I believe very strongly that as our royal fathers you will ensure the message is clear to all.''
He added that the greatness of any people lay in their ability to work together in spite of their differences and the types of offence that had been caused between each other.
The acting president expressed the hope that royal fathers would continue to offer useful suggestions and the right advice to ensure that the country remained united.
Osinbajo will meet with the traditional rulers from the northern part of the country on Monday.

Nigeria's two leading artistes, Wizkid and Davido have locked horns in a supremacy battle to prove who is better in the music industry. The battle which was fought and may still be continued in the ring of social media sees the two musical gurus take swipes at each other, sparking comments from their fans.
It all began with the “If” artiste, Davido, throwing the first verbal punch shortly after the release of Wizkid’s single, “Sounds from the other side,” when he took to his Snapchat to say, “Nah ‘pon pon’ sounds dey reign now oooo! No Jonze, all other sounds na the least for now. Lmao!”
But the “Holla at Your Boy” artiste is not one to keep mum when attacked, especially when it comes to the field he has carved a large niche for himself. And he replied Davido proportionately when he tweeted, “catch up or stay local.” Although he later deleted some part of the tweet, but it had read, “The game is only for the real! Catch up or stay local! Don't blame anybody for ur failures! Pray and work hard kids!”
He equally tweeted, “U can’t hate on someone doing better than u in what u failed at! Learn and appreciate! Free ur mind from hate young kids. And remember kids! Drink more water!!”
This response triggered the comparison debate between the two big guys. There were comments, though, by peacemakers calling for ceasefire and saying the controversy was needless.
Lol…which USA? Right now, Davido owns Naija airplay…Even Runtown is making better hits than Wiz at the moment..He should return home https://t.co/FSDaOJmMf2
Twenty six year-old Wizkid, born as Ayodeji Balogun and Davido, 24 years old, with the full name, David Adedeji Adeleke, have collaborated before on stage, with the rivalry between the two now seen as unwarranted.
Both artistes had released blockbusters of late, with Wizkid now set to release his EP on 14 July.

The Federal Government has delivered assorted grains to over 12,000 Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in their various camps.
This happened just as Acting President Yemi Osinbajo received progress report on Special Relief Intervention Plan and described the new humanitarian aid delivery system as a unique operation.
These were contained in the statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, last night, which added that the update report was delivered to Osinbajo on Friday.
The statement noted that there was considerable progress in the implementation of the Special Relief Intervention – an initiative launched in Maiduguri by the Federal Government on June 8 to deliver effective and comprehensive humanitarian aid especially food to persons displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East.
"The initiative which is part of a broad plan to address food shortage in the camps and other settlements of displaced persons, is now delivering assorted grains to internally displaced (through over 1000 trucks) and already have reached 12, 691 households in Borno State since the flag off by the Acting President on June 8,"the statement said.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it supports indigenous efforts to improve the electoral process, saying it was working with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to automate the voting process.
Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, in a statement, said the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, had led a team from NASENI to the INEC headquarters "to demonstrate a machine they had developed, which they said could register voters, facilitate the process of electronic voting in five different elections at the same time and also collate results".
He said that contrary to some media reports, the commission was actually very receptive to the innovation.
"The Director General of NASENI, Dr Mohammed Haruna affirmed that the machine was developed in response to the challenges the Commission encountered during the 2011 general elections", Oyekanmi said.
"The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu praised the initiative and described it as a step in the right direction. He explained that electoral issues were legal processes rooted in the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Law and INEC Guidelines. He said the Commission would immediately set up a Joint Technical Committee with NASENI to take a close look at the new device and report back on its findings. He immediately named members on the Commission's side. The Minister quickly responded that his Ministry would also constitute its own team get back to the Commission within 24 hours."
