Anambra: Obiano mandates compulsory compliance with traffic rules

Willie Obiano1It would be no business as usual for road users in Anambra State from July 1, as the State Government would start enforcing the laws on compulsory use of helmets by motorcyclists, as well as the seizure of vehicles that are not road worthy.

Governor Willie Obiano announced this when he paid a condolence visit to a family on Ochuche-Umuodu, in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the State, which lost five members of the family in a fatal car crash last week.

It was a carnage to under some sort of four women and a man from Okechukwu family and a destination from the Nwadialo family, in a car accident while returning from a traditional wedding ceremony of a relative in Ekwulumili in Nnewi South Local Government Area.

What was to be a happy occasion turned sour when a construction truck rammed into them on Obodoukwu road in Okpoko, killing six people on the spot and injuring many.

The Governor, that the unfortunate incident to carelessness and non-compliance with traffic rules, read the riot act for all road users.

He disclosed plans to place traffic signs and markings on the necessary spots, as part of the measures to encourage improvements in the safety and promotion of mental health on roads.

The Commander of the Federal road safety Corps, State Sector Hyginus Omeje, also said that his mission would maintain the active traffic rules.

Also respond to the development and emphasis on strict enforcement of traffic rules were the Secretary of the State Government, Obaze, Oseloka and the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on image management, Paul Nwosu, who decried the carelessness that robbed them of their community members, as they were all from Ogbaru Council area.

Community members appreciated the Governor's visit and noted that his administration had remained a people-oriented administration and she got a sense of belonging by sharing their charges with them.

The Governor was received by the traditional ruler of the community, Ian Paul Aqaba.
